Lott's Comments on Thurmond Lead to Avalanche of Bad Headline Puns Involving "Lott," "Strom"
    12-12-2002 (Archived)
WASHINGTON, DC - Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott is in a "Lott" of trouble after his apparent endorsement of former Dixiecrat Strom Thurmond's segregationist stance touched off a storm of controversy, also known as a "Strom Storm" by the nation's annoying, unimaginative headline writers.

The incident comes as America is rocked by irritating, obvious writing amongst its newsmedia: Recovery time from the "They're Just Wild About 'Harry'" headlines from the release of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets has been cut short, as has the opportunity to prepare for the inevitable "One Film to Rule Them All" reviews for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

It is unknown if the Lott/Strom debacle will affect headline writers' plans to use the Senate Minority Leader's appearance alongside Santa Claus and his reindeer at a Christmas fundraiser as a chance to write "On Daschle!"
