You know what's completely amazing? Online shopping. I know I'm not mapping uncharted editorial territory with this opinion, but I'd like to throw in my two cents. It's completely amazing. Today, I came home from Manhattan in order to buy a book. It was just easier that way. I didn't have to talk to anyone, I didn't have to wait in line, I didn't have to spend the extra thirty seconds after I paid in front of the cashier mergesorting the bills from the change to the bills in my moneyclip. What I
did have to do was sit on my Captains Chair (I really dig my chair, by the way. Have I ever talked about that?), drink some apple juice, and surf the web. Amazon even remembered my credit card number from last time (*I* can't even remember - I have to carry it around with me) AND realized that the book I was going to buy was probably the sequal to the last book I bought from them.
Normally, I get upset about them remembering information about me, but it came up really huge. The best part is, I didn't have to go home to blog about the experience, because it was already there. Ain't life grand?
So, there's been some apartmental changes recently. The old loveseat in the living room is gone, replaced with a pair of new couches. Which in my opinion, is a whole lot of couch. There's a lot of stuffing in the room. First, some words about the last couch. It was a nice couch. It had it's problems, of course. One of the main problems was that it was white (I use the past tense here not only because we no longer have the couch, but because it
was white. At some point. We heard). So it tended to show the stains. And there's only so many times you can eat pasta on a white couch before something unfortunate happens. And not only the little accidents on the fabric, but the collection of... couch stuff under the pillows. Makes us glad we never had occasion to pick those up before.
Of course, just thinking about it now, I suppose if we
had occassion to do so, that might have been cleaned every once in a while.
Last Thursday I got an email from a friend of mine from school (who is actually the trombone player for Agent Double-O-Zero, Sam's [my roommate] band. Also Ton's band. Ain't it a small world?) inviting me to a
flashmob. It was my first, and it was really funny. People were told to meet at various bars around Times Square. Once we were there, we were given slips of paper with instructions. The instructions (not verbatim - I lost the bit of paper):
7:16 - Enter the Times Square Toy's R US
7:20 - Gather around the giant animatronic dinosaur on the second floor. Stare as if transfixed by it's awesome might
7:24 - Fall to your knees and begin to worship the beast. When it roars, moan mightily and genuflect.
By 7:28, no one should remain in the building
And really, it went off much like the instructions explained. It's a really brilliant idea, one that marred only by two things: (1) The fact that the second floor of the Times Square Toys R US does not have a capacity of over 200, which is what we brought to it, and (2) one of the reasons were were exceeded that number so much was the fact that there was about one cameraman for every 10 mob attendees. Kind of takes the spontaneity out of the entire thing. But still, it ruled. There was something liberating about breaking one of the Comandments that you don't often think about. But there's really no question that kneeling down in front of a giant dinosaur, bowing and thrashing about in throes of gnostic ecstacy is frowned upon in the Old Testament. The only time I've ever done more idol worship was when watching the video for "Dancing With Myself." Pictures should be forthcoming.
Oh, have I mentioned that I'm fully involved in my job by now? I'd mention more about it, but I seem to remember the Non-Disclosure Agreement having a clause that gives to them the right to most of my vital organs if I talk about the company (herein referred to as The Company) to anyone who isn't an employee. Forgive me if I'm reticent.
Wait! There was one more thing! This is the 99th Kennyblog entry (Yea! Actually, that's kind of impressive. It's been going on for just over a year, and I think the way the math works out is an entry every four or five days! That's a very tolerable average). Which means... you guessed it: The 100th kennyblog will be a Best-Of-Kennyblog blog entry! So do me a favor, and think back to all the old entries you've read (don't feel bad about going and reading the archives to refresh your memory), write and tell me what you think the funniest lines were, and you'll... see them again next time I write. Huh, maybe that's not such a great deal for you, but it almost ensures an entry for next week!
Oh, durnit. I forgot to followup with more information on the couches. That'll be for the 101st.
