Woof. Sorry it's been a while since I've last posted, but I haven't really been in much of a mood for it. Rough couple of weeks. At least, I think it was; I wasn't cognizant for most of it. I assume that had something to do with the fact that the mean temperature in New York City for the past while has been N below zero, where N equals REALLY FUCKING COLD, and my brain has completely shut down.
No, I mean really cold. It's so cold that in the apartment we are leaving the refrigerator door open so we have another source of heat. It's so cold that the trees started to sprout leaves again, just so they had something to keep them warm. Damn it's cold. Having a lot of trouble dealing with it. The other night, Ben asked if I wanted to go out for a beer, and I told him that the only time I wanted to spend outside was that temporal distance between the subway and my apartment. Then I realized that I was behaving like an old lady, so I did the honorable thing. I went home and put on a shawl.
Another reason I haven't been putting up new entries is that the situation at the apartment has a little worrisome. Sam has been pretty sick, and everyone has been concerned for him. Now that we are pretty sure he is going to live through it (he started going to work recently for the first time in two weeks, he can stand up on his own, etc) I can start to make fun of the situation.
It was pretty serious for a while, so much so that his parents flew up from Texas last weekend to help him deal with doctors, etc. Which was pretty non-eventful for me, since when they came in I went home for the weekend to go bowling (for the frist time in about a year. I did really well, considering. Well, not even considering: I did pretty stinking well. Averaged 187 over four games, high of 207, low of 177). But when I came back at the end of the weekend, I found that while his dad had left, his mother was going to be staying with us for a while.
Now, I certainly don't begrudge the fact, but it was pretty funny living with Sam and his mother. She was sleeping in the living room on an inflatable mattress (unknowlingly supplied by a friend of mine). I guess it came up pretty huge in a couple of ways, since she definitely did all the cleaning that we have been meaning to do since we moved in (since in we moved?). And it came up really huge for Sam, since when you're living with your mother, one thing you don't have to worry about is making yourself dinner.
On the downside, she definitely watched a serious amount of Korean television. So much so that I can tell you just about every plot line on KBS Drama. The first time I saw her watching it, I thought it was a cooking show because there was definitely a man and a woman on screen kneeling on a kitchen floor amidst more cabbage than I've ever seen in my life. I think it was a metaphor for something. Probably rutabega.
The biggest problem (not that there were any real problems, per se) was that it really threw a monkeywrench into my "Walking Around the House in my Underwear Scratching My Belly and Drinking Beer" lifestyle. Which I really shouldn't have been involved in anyway. Who wears underwear? Ma Aqua (who is a little taken aback when I call her "Ma Aqua", by the way) is leaving on Saturday. It was a nice little episode in the life of the apartment, but I can't say I'm sad to see it end.
What exactly are 'steez,' anyway? Wait, I just looked it up. That's awesome:
