Temporarily Disconnected: 8-28-2002

It's funny how many of these things start with one of the following three things:
  • "Such a disaster"
  • "I realize I haven't been updating that often" or
  • "It's funny how many of these things start with...

I really have to start getting some new material. I think that's my problem with social situations, as well. I only have a certain limited number of scripts I can follow before I start to flounder. A relatively rigid structure for communication, I got. I suppose it's lucky that one of those scripts just has me replying to the other person(s) with relatively non-sensical utterances. It doesn't really make much for coherent interesting conversation, but at least things keep moving. And how frequent are actually meaningful interactions anyway?

So, I called a phone number of a landlord an hour ago, and she said that she was busy and could I call back in an hour? Not a problem, I said. I will admit that my call back did take longer than an hour (but we all have things to do, you know?), but I feel justified in being surprised and a little annoyed that when I did call back, the phone had been disconnected. It sounded like a good apartment, too. Just like this city to pull something like that on you. When things like this happen (and it's the second time I've actually been that close to a disconnected cell phone), I have to wonder if the person knew it was coming. Figure, generally speaking, cell comanies aren't going to just disconnect your service without you having some sort of advance knowledge (I'm classifying "I haven't paid my mobile bill in a couple of months" as advance knowledge"). So why did the girl tell me to call her back?

Finally did some food shopping the other day. For a long while I was subsisting exclusively on Burger King and McDonalds. It was one of those addiction things - I didn't want to, and I knew it wasn't good for me, but somehow my path consistently led me to those two doorways. I can admit that I have a problem (but at least it hadn't degenerated so far that I was going to White Castle. From my own personal experience, White Castle is the crack-cocaine of the fast food world). So I bought some salad mix, chicken cutlets, cheese, etc., and I've been eating chili over salad for the past few days (and turkey sandwiches for lunch). Much more better. Of course, last night I had McDonalds again, but it was a brief moment of weakness. I fully plan to once again be off fast food for a while.

Thinking about a career change, so the apartment hunt might actually be off for a little while. I don't know how much a lion tamer makes, and it all kind of depends on whether or not the circus picks me up. Check back for information as it comes. Or don't, I got no dukes.
