BAGHDAD, IRAQ - Chief UN weapons inspector
Hans Blix conducted his first official business since his arrival in Iraq today, assuming control of the UN council responsible for ensuring the global prominence of bureaucrats with really goofy names.
"I'm proud to be a part of this esteemed committee, and I will work to ensure that, from Djibouti to Burkina Faso to Papua New Guinea, its authority will not go unrecognized," said Blix, after assuming control of the commission from chairman emeritus Boutros Boutros-Ghali.
Blix's job is expected to be complicated by the strong influence of the American contingent, led by Sen. Arlen Specter, Gov. Mitt Romney and Rep. Dick Armey.
