(Please note: This was posted a week after it was written, due to Las Vegas casinos not providing anything other than slot machines to spend time with. That, and strippers).
This was a super packed weekend. Full week, actually, and one of the best I've had in a while (although I feel like I've been saying that about once a month. Which, really, is a nice thing to be noticing). This past week had Ben's sister, Lauren, visiting New York and staying at the apartment. For a few days, she brought another friend of hers from Arizona, and the four of us had a pretty awesome time. Since it was Spring Break for them (both students in Arizona), we felt it incumbent on us to take them out drinking every night they were here. So it's been about a full week of steady drinking. This, I'm led to understand, is better for you than binge drinking in much the same way that we stretch our muscles with long and steady movements as opposed to bursts of activity. Of course, I'm led to understand this by Ben, so I should probably take it with a grain of salt.
Friday night was league bowling. I don't know if I've ever mentioned it before in there pages, but I take my bowling fairly seriously. Not as seriously as it's possible to take bowling, but close to it. I own my own shoes, for example, and have a pair of bowling balls (my strike ball and a spare ball. And no, they don't have names, because I find it weird to anthropomorphize objects whose entire role in life is to be thrown at things). I did fairly well, with two games out of three over my average of 153 (a 188 and a 167), and one below (my first game was a 122, which I blame on my not drinking enough when I first got to the alley).
Saturday night was pretty crazy. First we went to Mark Malkoff's Friday Night Intervention (Mark is the guy who brought you Lil' G'n'R, and runs this show every few weeks in Manhattan). Couldn't stay there too long, unfortunately, because we had to head over to another Improv Everywhere event (this is the group who brought New York such events as the No-Pants Subway Ride, the Best Show Ever, and a whole bunch of other NYC happenings. If you have a few extra hours to kill, leave this website and go over there, since Charlie Todd is SO much funnier than Ton, Ben, or myself). Saturday night's event was a brilliant idea, and involved getting 75 people dressed in black to stand in a grid of brightly lit windows (ranging from the second floor to the 6th floor of the building we were in) facing Union Square and performing various synchronized acts for a crowd that had gathered on street level. Being a part of it was SO funny, and I heard that it looked amazing from the street. I heard this from a trustworthy source, Ben, since he was escorted out of the building by security right at the beginning of the piece (during the jumping jacks, I believe). Go check out the site to see pics and (hopefully) video. Really good stuff).
After that was drinks with the agents involved in the prank, and then out to a party in Brooklyn. The apartment the party was held in was
so nice it almost pissed me off. One of those places that, no matter how much you like the person living there, you start thinking about scenarios that could be set up that would end up with you getting the apartment. Sure, with all the gushing I've done in regards to my apartment since I've moved in with Ben, I certainly have nothing that I can rightfully complain about. But not having anything to complain about has never stopped me before, so why start now?
That was pretty much the end of Saturday night (well, the actual end of Saturday was me having a few too many Yuengling's, and verbally abusing Ben and another friend of ours (Jeremy, who is also writing for
The Shaved Report these days), then hoisting one of the hostesses friends above my head and carrying her to the door. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but since I had only met the girl one other time may have been inappropriate (although, since that only other time was at my birthday party and my pants were off, I suppose that I've already past any reasonable boundary for 'appropriate' that I could have been worried about). Luckily the hostess is a colleague at work, so. . . wait, that's just makes my getting intoxicated and unruly worse, doesn't it? Oops. Ah well, she's a down girl, and I'm sure doesn't mind all that much.
Which brings us to Sunday. I don't want to talk about this too much. Let's just say that some of the rumors are correct: I
did attend a Bikram Yoga session on Sunday, and I
did enjoy it after the fact. The story of my crying during the workout are not correct, although for at least 15 minutes of the session, I felt like I was both going to and wanted to die. I'm excited to go back next week. I think I'll do it until I reach the point I can do the entire workout (I did maybe 75% of it Sunday) without my body feeling like it's going to fall apart. Then I'll be officially healthy, and can stop working out entirely. That's why I do this, right?
So, I'm writing this entry on a plane to Las Vegas (Jet Blue reprazent), and really have to stop. The guy who's sitting in the seat next to me has been standing in the aisle waiting for me to notice that he'd like to sit back down for about 5 minutes (hey, I don't like to be interrupted when I'm spell checking). I'll try to update this week when I either run out of money, or hit the $1000 profit mark.
