I'm working on this project outside of ATF that I don't want anyone to know about (although I seem to tell everyone I've ever met, because I can't keep my mouth shut). It was on hiatus for a while, and I brought it back and did some serious work, and now there's about one or two more nights of work that it needs before it can be released. I'm very excited about it, but I've really been going out of my way to not do any more work on it. So far tonight, after having come home early from work to get things done on it (I was feeling crappy, too, but it was going to be a happy result of the illness), I have: written an article for
The Shaved Report, answered a bunch of
Ask The Fish questions (with varying degrees of success), watched two episodes of The Simpsons (both from the 6th season -
Bart's Girlfriend, and
Lisa On Ice (and can we hear it for Snpp.com? If there's anything that better encapsulates what the Internet is all about, I can't view it through the content filters at the office), and read 100 pages of an Umberto Eco novel.
I'm such a jerk, too, because on an almost conscious level, I'm doing these things because I know I can make a good argument that they aren't wasting time, since they are all things I have been planning on doing. But I know, in my heart of hearts, that I'm doing the wrong thing. It's things like this which drive a man to honest communication with himself, I'm coming to understand. Knowing thyself is such a bummer.
Last night was the monthly Amateur Burlesque competition at Galapagos Art Space. Miss Allison (can I stop referencing her in terms of past events now? Let's just say that from here onward, I'm taking your knowledge of this particular friend of mine as read, and we'll go from there) was helping
Mr. Murray Hill (who is easily the funniest person I've seen all month) to host, and it was a really good night. Although, as far as I'm concerned, it's hard to go wrong with getting served drinks and watching college girls strip. And Ally was dressed as a sailor girl, which opened up some surprising insight into my turn ons.
I mention it (the burlesque, not the turn on) because of a conundrum that the event brought up. In an attempt to open up my social circle a little bit, I wanted to invite an aquaintance of mine from the office out to the bar. Now, it just so happened that this aquaintance was a girl, which I find relevant only because of the nature of the evenings entertainment. But she seemed like a down girl, so in a vacuum I figured it wasn't a horrible idea. However, it just so happened that the only other time I had ever seen her out of a work context was at
my birthday party this past month which, if you'll recall, also prominentely displayed burlesque as a feature attraction. So I had this worry was that I was going to get something of a "That Ken seems like a nice guy. Too bad about his being a pervery old man fixated on pasties, though." Ultimately, I figured better now than later when I've tricked her into being my friend, so I asked her. She said maybe, but ended up not showing up. I'm not sure if I learned a lesson.
Alright, done with another blog entry. Now, as soon as I've finished washing the dishes and shaving my head, I'll be ready to add three things to the growing list of things preventing me from finishing my project. Actually, if I can be this productive every night while keeping from doing it, I may just keep it around as a spur.
