Ain't it always the way? Mere seconds away from signing for a place (well, more like hours away. But break those hours down to their components and we have seconds, albeit a lot of them), and the prize is snatched away from my hungry jaws. Sam went back to the place we were thinking about (as referenced in my
last entry) and took another look around. This time he went back during the daytime, and wasn't so happy with what he saw. Actually, the analogy he used was waking up in the morning, looking at the girl you brought home the night before, and not being too pleased with your judgement. While Sam didn't go so far as to swear off alcohol, he did say that we should reconsider the apartment. So we did, and we're going back out into that dark night after work today. Such is life. My life, anyway.
A couple of things to get through today. First off, a public service announcement:
That's right boys and girls, Kaiju Big Battel is coming back to NYC. At the Roxy on November 14th. I have mixed feelings about telling you all this as I haven't gotten my tickets yet; but I figure most of my fans are located in the midwest and as such aren't going to make it out for the show. Get your monster wrestling on!
Also, this weekend. A fairly good time. Had a friends birthday party on Friday night, and an aquaintance's birthday party on Saturday night. Actually went out both nights with the intention of self-medicating my non-existant sorrows with alcohol, but failed. Friday because I knew I had to drive my car back from the train station when I finally went home, and Saturday night because I didn't stay at the party long enough to do any serious drinking. So the weekend was a bust as far as that's concerned. Not interesting, you say? Don't fret, I'm working up to something.
As I'm sure all of you know (if you didn't know by this weekend, you definitely found out when you were an hour early for work today), the weekend marked another Daylight Savings Time. There has been a lot of argument about the efficacy of DST, and whether or not we should have it in a god-fearing country such as our own (I personally believe that it's an affront to logic and decency, and that's is probably a mid-western plot to pad the bottom line of farmers. Not unlike the farm subsidies that pay farmers to not work the land) but I'm not here to talk about its wide-reaching effects. I just wanted to mention my own personal battle with Daylight Savings Time this weekend, and how I came out the loser.
Maybe "personal battle" is going a little far, and maybe my problem isn't with DST but rather the Long Island Railroad. I'm definitely pissed at someone though. Anyway, the thing was this: I was at this party on Saturday night, and was a little concerned about the time (it was in brooklyn, and so a little while away from Penn Station). At a reasonable hour (1 o'clock or so) I'd decided that I'd had enough, and that if I was going to have any chance to catch any train back to my station (which was either at 1:40 or 2:55, depending which I wanted to make), it was time to go. I thought I was being all wiley, with my firm understanding of DST: I leave at 1AM, the trip takes an hour and a half (getting me to Penn Station at 2:30). It didn't matter if Penn did or did not turn back their clocks, I'd be set for either train! So huge!
Obviously that didn't work out so well. Yes I got there at 2:30 (which by then was 1:30), and yes there was a 1:40 train. But the 1:40 train (which was in ten minutes) had actually left 50 minutes ago, and the next train (the 2:55, which was actually in 15 minutes) wasn't going to leave for another hour and a half (give or take). So I took a cab back to Bens place and crashed on his new futon. Which was nice because he just got the futon, but sucked because the cab ride only allowed for about 15 minutes of me listening to my iPod (whereas the train ride would have allowed for about an hour and a half).
I don't have time to spell check this today, so sorry about any errors. I gotta go look at some apartments.
