Post-Vacation Post: 7-22-2002
And so, with the regularity of an arrhythmic heart, Kennyblog returns. Been sunning myself on the beautiful beaches of Antigua for the last week. A horrible time for me to leave my post at the e-fort. Some pretty spectacular things have been going on at the blog. I'm talking about our first appearance on television (TechTV), our first write-up in a newspaper (the St. Petersburg Times), we were Yahoo!'s pick of the day for July 20th (which we are really psyched about), and we will soon be the pick of the day on a certain very popular web comic. All in all, it's been an exciting week, which I spent mostly under water looking at fish. Can't complain, though. Any vacation I go on and don't come back with a sunburn is a good one, as far as I'm concerned.
And the things that I missed didn't end with events at the e-fort, oh no! The apartment had it's swings as well, from what I hear. When I got back from the airport, there were a few messages on my cell phone from guy named Phil. My relationship with Rob (who you'll remember from a brief cameo in the last blog entry) was a short lived one, as Rob turned the apartment and it's lease over to this new fellow. At this point, I believe that Rob is the new holder of the "living in the apartment for the least amount of time" award, his total stay being zero nights. Going to be tough to beat. Phil, who I met the other day, seems like a nice enough guy. Although, to be perfectly honest, he was a little too interested in finding out when my things were going to be out of the apartment.
And speaking of when my things are going to be out of the apartment, the answer is yesterday. With Ben's help, I made one trip Saturday afternoon, piling my desk and dresser et al into my truck, and hauling them back to long island. Then we went back into Manhattan and spent the day doing other things (including another Complacent party. The problem with Complacent is that some of their parties are brilliant [like the Green Party, or the RGB party last year) and some of them are just parties. Last night's 2002 party fell into the latter category. Lots of baggy trousers and a fair number of glow sticks. There were are few art installations which were worthwhile, but all in all there wasn't that many interesting things). The point of this digression is, after a few hours at the party I went back to Brooklyn to take the last of my things out of the apartment. It was the best idea I had had all week, since while the inside of my apartment stayed at a comfortable temperature (assuming you're a salamander), at 4AM, outside was nice and cool and breezy. So all of my things are now packed up and on Long Island.
Now, I don't really know how to feel about that. Well, I know - it's depressing. It's definitely convenient that I have my parents place to move back into for a few weeks while I get a new apartment, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I didn't really care if my roommate didn't want to hear me when I was playing with my drum machine. But what am I going to do, subject my mother to my bad drum and bass? Ah well. At least there's a net connection there, which gives the potential for site administration at night. The other thigns I'm a little worried about is the fact that this blog was supposed to track the progress of me living in the barrio of Bushwick, Brooklyn. Now that I've moved out, it really seems as if the blog has run it's course. I'll have to decide what to do about that: I don't think I'm interesting enough on my own to make this worthwhile sans theme. We'll see how it goes.
Oh, and finally - if anyone hears of a good cheap place in Park Slope for me to move into, I'm all ears.
