Holy Yoda, Batman!: 5-23-2002

Before I move on to some apartment talk, I just wanted to say how much a disaster the next few days are going to be. See, I just saw Attack of the Clones last night, and I had a great time. This in spite of the fact that about 1/3 of the movie was kind of crappy. This isn't a movie review site, so I won't get into it, but suffice to say that I was incredibly psyched when I got out of the theater. I say the rest of the week is going to be a disaster, because of the way I'm going to react to seeing the move - so far today, everything I've had to do, I've first tried to do using the Force. And I expect that once Ben gets into the office (he's been hanging out at my work everyonce in a while since he's been in the city), we are going to have a pretty intense light saber fight with some paper towel tubes I've been saving up.

But anyway, the apartment. So, what's been happening... We've been doing some relatively fly things with the walls. I think I'm going to borrow a digital camera this weekend, and take some pictures. I'll try to have them up by Monday afternoon - Invite you all in to my apartment, as it were, and see the pieces on the walls. Make this a little more of a multi-media experience.

What I really wanted to get to today was my first day in the apartment. This was when Jorge was still living there, and I was using an inflatable bed on the floor to sleep on (as opposed to right now, when I'm using an inflatable bed on a futon frame to sleep on). Jeff and Jorge wanted to take me out skateboarding. This, I refused (I have some deeply buried psychological issues with skateboarding that date back to me first getting on a board and my dad flipping out that I wasn't wearing a helmet. He made me put on a helmet, and elbow pads, and I was definitely the laughing stock of the coolest 12-year olds I knew at that point. Scarred me forever), but agreed to jog alongside them since i hadn't gone for my run in a while. I had never actually seen a single junkyard dog before, but on the trip out to our destination, I saw half a dozen. They were mean, too. Kind of crazy. There's something that makes me very queasy about angry dogs behind fences. I always feel like they know a way to get out, and are just waiting for me to walk past the hole in the fence.

For some reason, we ended up jumping a spiked fence to get into a cemetary (which might be the Machpelah Cemetery, where Harry Houdini is buried, but I'm not positive), walking up a great hill. It was about 2 AM by the time we reached the top of the cemetary hill. Sat at the top and chatted for a bit. Jorge taught me the term "Ghetto Bird," which evidentally refers to the police helicopters that do fly overs every once in a while. That's nice. Anyway, after a little while I left them and started jogging back, since they (going on skateboards and heading downhill) were going to be able to do it faster than was. Met up with them at the bottom and headed back to the apartment.

As we were walking back, I heard a great commotion up the block, and saw a bunch of shadows turn the corner. I asked Jeff what that was, and he told me that it was a pack of wild dogs. Evidentally, they roam the streets at night in my neighborhood. Kind of creepy, if you ask me. Figure though, that they can't be all that tough. Otherwise they would have gotten jobs in junkyards. I remain unconcerned.
