Never knew why it was 'U': 8-24-2005

I'm standing here, kind of freaking out, I decided that I needed to sit down for a second. Not surprisingly, my laptop was next to me, and I realized that it's been quite some time since I actually used it for anything other than watching Futurama and downloading pictures of Scarlett Johansson. So I decided to see what this was like.

Feels like home, after you've left it with the windows shut for a while. Which is not unlike the feeling of my apartment these days. It's feeling pretty empty these days - we've about reached that time when we have to e moving out of here.

Actually, one of us moved out of here already (the astute of you will note that my use of "here" in referencing the apartment is a subtle clue as to the identity of the absent ATF'er). Ben packed up all his stuff, and went off to Greece, leaving an empty room and a [[Proper noun removed to avoid potential litigation]] on the couch. Which is devastating, of course. Mostly because I know a little something about set theory, and that the collection of sets A and not-A will emcompass just about everything; removing A (Ben. More to the point, Ben's stuff) from the apartment (all the stuff) leaves only not-A (Ken. More to the point the huge apartment-load of stuff remaining).

Well, at least I have something to do with it all, now that I bought an apartment. Actually, I suppose I haven't bought it yet, but I think that at this point it's a foregone conclusion. So that's incredibly exciting. And abjectly terrifying. What business do I have owning anything? I can't even remember to put one of those blue-toilet water things in the commmode once a month. I just don't think I'm responsible enough (case in point: I just remembered that the reason I was home so early today was so I could pick up my laundry, and I totally forgot to do it. That sucks).

I'm totally going to sit in a rocking chair outside the door of my apartment in a white suit, drinking a mint julep. . . "It's good to have land."

A bunch of other stuff, of course. Ben and Arin getting engaged, my sister-in-law having a daughter (well, in a couple of months anyway, but I'm totally and completely excited. When can I start playing video games with her? It's now my life's work to be cool Uncle Ken), work is really good. . . There's a lot of stuff that's just about to on on, and it's all fairly intense, it feels like we're all at the top of an unstable equilibrium, and there's a huge amount of potential energy.

It's a good feeling, but (and watch me be the sensitive guy here) it's a little scary.

Hope you all are well. Rock on.
