When I first came into Manhattan a month and a half ago, I had a short set of plans for the immediate future: Move in with Ben Stein, laugh a lot. The plan has TOTALLY come together. I moved in with Ben, and I think the only time I stopped laughing is the brief period of time when it wasn't funny that he was getting arrested for protesting during the Republican National Convention. And I don't think I need to tell you that period of time was a fairly short one.
The apartment is really funny right now, and has been for a few weeks. It's mostly the run-up to the Rock, Paper, Scissors Championships. Just walking in to the apartment (and not having the backstory), you'd think you were in a sweat shop dedicated to making clothes for Mexican masked wrestlers. The dining room table is covered in fabric, thread, needles and safety pins, masks, hoods, power bands, high boots, capes, etc. Both Ben and myself have been exhausted all the time - a full days work, then a nights worth of sewing and fabric gluing, cutting and measuring (often in that very order, which is part of why it's so tiring). The uniforms are coming out great - way better than I expected. Watch the
RPS Training Blog for pictures after from weekend. I think you'll be impressed (or concerned. but definitely one of the two, and either is worth taking a look for).
And again, I'm sorry for not updating. This time it's not because nothing funny has been happening, but because TOO many funny things have been happening. I mean, come on. Interviewed by Fox Sports News, CNN, and possibly on the cover of Forbes magazine? Running around Niagra Falls in a cape and mask? Last night was awesome, too. Went up to Ithaca to do some interviewing for the company at Cornell University. Got me a nice room in the Statler hotel on the company dime, too. They also paid for Wegmans subs. That's what they get for giving me a corporate credit card. Anyway, last night, I was sitting in Ben's room talking about the upcoming inteviews, and then headed back to my room to get some sleep. When I got back to my room, Ben was calling me to tell me that I had left my bag in his room. Crap. Well, I went back to the elevator, toying with the idea of taking the stairs the one floor, but realizing that I was a lazy sack. Got in the elevator, and accidentally pressed the button for the lobby. Crap. Pressed the right button, but not after the elevator passed the floor. Got to the lobby, and was going to press the close door button and not let anyone on, but decided not to be a dick.
Some guy gets on the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor
K: Holy crap! You're John Cleese!
JC: Indeed.
K: I just wanted you to now that I have a humor website, and it's named after one of the quotes from one of your sketches: Alltooflat.com
JC: That's brilliant. But I have no idea what you're talking about.
Kennyb proceeds to do some lines from the Fish License sketch
JC: Huh. You know, you should check out my website that's starting up in a couple of days, for my 65th birthday. thejohncleese.com. Some identity thief has stolen johncleese.com
K: Now standing as to hold the door of the elevator open holding on my floor Definitely. Sorry for holding you up, but I'm just such a big fan.
JC:Thanks.
So huge.
