Please note: there is an addendum to this post, at the end
Ahem. <cough, cough>. I... uh.... lost my keyboard?
No matter. I'm sure my readers are forgiving. And if not, I only have to
recall what this is all about. I remember reading somewhere the suggestion that most blogs these days are
merely a resurrection of the vanity press. And for some reason or another, you
picked up a copy of my pamphlet. The only difference is that instead of a bench
in a Seattle coffee shop, you picked this up online. I'm even saving you the
effort of throwing it out! See how thoughtful I am?
It's time to get this going again, anyway. For a couple of reasons. One,
is that the only way I know how to be funny is by self-deprecation, and I'm getting a little full of myself. I need to get back in the habit of self-analysis so I can get rid of the idea that I'm doing pretty well. I don't believe anything good ever came from being content. Also, due to various circumstances I'm going to be moving out of my apartment in the next couple of
months. Which, of course, means new apartment adventures, which is what this
space is all about. Yeah!
But, since I don't want to strain myself from jumping right back in at full speed, this won't have anything to do with apartments. A few months back (many months ago, I
suppose), I was talking with a friend of mine poured scorn on a mutual
aquaintance for listening to the same song on repeat over and over again. "I
totally don't do that sort of thing," I said. To which my friend replied "What
are you talking about, you idiot? You do that all the time!" (well, she didn't
actually say the idiot thing, but if it wasn't present subtextually, perhaps it should have been). I realized today as I was listening to Akrobatik's "Feedback" for the 15th time since I bought the
album (the day before), I realized that she was more correct than I had given her at the time. And so I decided it would be a good project to make a mix of all the songs to which
I've been listening over and over for the past couple of weeks.
Trompe L'oiel -
Fishyspoon
Emerge -
Fischerspooner
Feedback - Akrobatik
Superman Lover - Johnny 'Guitar' Wilson
Radio -
Rancid (as performed by NOFX)
Against All Odds -
Phil Collins (as performed by The Postal Service)
Debra Jean -
The Queers
The Witch -
The Sonics (actually, the entirety of "Here Are the Sonics", but I'm
not making a two CD mix, one CD of which is a single album)
40 Oz to Freedom -
Sublime(Hey, it's summer)
Come Dance With Me -
Teen Idols
21st Century Digital Boy -
Bad Religion
Last Hit (Original and the remix) -
The High and The Mighty (vs Eminem)
Trouble -
Elvis Presley
Knock Knock -
The Hives
I'm under no illusion that this is going to make a good mix, but it'll be honest
at least. I blame Sam for a lot of this - I now have, for instance, the
entirety of The Queers discography from this guy, and find myself moving more
away from the Used Hip-Hop section of Kims Video to the Used Punk section of
Other Music. Which is a problem, because I feel the same way shopping there
that I used to feel when I was 16 and would go shopping at Tower Records - just
not cool enough to be there. I blame the fact that I wear white socks with
black shoes.
UPDATE: I just found a stack of blank CDs, so the first 5 readers of this blog to contact me with their mailing address can get a copy of Kennyb's "Stuff I'm listening to over and over" mix. Seriously. Click
