The Ruth Buzzi Thing Was a Lie: 4-10-2004

I'm in Seattle again. Visiting my friend Dave, with my other friend Allison. Ah! the joys of free airline tickets (I get warm and shiver whenever the prospect of getting bumped off a plane arises. Getting late to where one is going is usually of no concern to someone with no agenda). As usual whenever I get to spend time with either of these two, I'm having a wonderful time. Getting them together in one place is almost, but not quite, too much. A really good time is being had by all.

We've done a bunch of things - Seattle Aquarium (where we were lucky enough to hear a conversation between father and son about the nature and function of a Harbour Seal penis. The father fielded the question fairly well, although I think Dr. Laura would have struck points for use of the word "weiner." She certainly would have objected to the wandering digression where the father wondered if the two seals laying there were lovers, but hey - it's Seattle.

Also went up into the Space Needle, which is to Seattle what... something very tall is to some other city with something very tall (sorry, I'm not feeling particularly expressive this morning. Probably the fact that I haven't had my morning coffee quota. Which, since I got here has jumped from "none" to "a hell of a lot." So, after two lattes, I'm still a cup away from reaching my morning minimum. My heart is beating really quickly, though, which is good since I assume that counts as my cardio for the weekend. The whole Seattle coffee thing is absurd, really. You think it's a joke, but it's really not. Every single thing we've done around here has been flanked on either side by a trip to a coffee shop. We actually went to a coffee shop on the other side of town, but before we wont we stopped at Dave's favorite coffee shop to get a cup, since he wasn't sure he was going to like the coffee over there. On the upside, every cafe worth going to is wireless [I suppose that really goes without saying. The point I'm trying to make is that there are a lot of coffee shops worth going to around here]. This has given me a lot of opportunity to get work done while hanging out.

Note that I say the opportunity, and say nothing about the execution. I've taken in so much caffeine that I haven't been able to look at anything and have it come in since Thursday. Everything is slightly blurry since my head is moving so quickly from the shakes. Have I mentioned the coffee thing? It's really weird). We found [we're back on the Space Needle thing - just track back looking for the open parenthesis from last paragraph] that from one third of the telescopes on the observation deck of the Needle, you can see right into David's apartment. Right now he's engaged in an internal debate as to whether this should cause him to draw his blinds more often, or to put on shows, just in case someone is looking. That's the problem with being a performer, I guess. You always have to decide when you're On. I think he's leaning towards deciding that playing the Gamecube version of Super Smash Brothers on his projector counts as performance, so that's what he's going to spend his time doing. So really, not much of a lifestyle change for him.

What else has been going on... Ally got another tattoo, I got a new nipple ring (not a new piercing though. Pierce me once, shame on you. Pierce me twice, etc etc). I've been taking a lot of pictures (which I'd include as part of this post, but most of them are of Ally's new tattoo, and hence not appropriate for viewing on a family webpage such as our own. That, and harbour seal penis, which I'll refrain from posting for a similar (though aesthetically diametric) reason. I will say, however, that having a digital camera is super awesome, and I should carry more often than I do.

What made the trip even just a little better is the fact that, for some completely unrelated and entirely mysterious reason (well, I'm sure that I could have found out the reason, but honestly I'm far too self-involved to ferret it out), Ben is in Seattle this week as well. Which comes up seriously huge, since when I don't spend time with him on a regular basis, I start to get the shakes. So he came with us to the Space Needle, and out to dinner, and everyone thought he was really funny (of course, by the time he got there, we were all pretty drunk, and I think most everybody thought he was Ruth Buzzi. But it's not my fault he kept making Laugh In jokes).

That's it for me. Back to the big city on... well, tonight, unfortunately. Leave here at 1 in the morning (sux), get in at 9 in the morning (sux worse). At least I get to watch the first lord of the rings movie on the plane ride back (I get to. Allison has to. Hey, it's my laptop.
