The Stripper: 5-14-2002

When I first decided to move into my new digs, I fully expected that I was going to be living with these two guys Jeff and Jorge. Nice enough guys: one was an excellent DJ and does freelance film work (I heard - as far as I can tell, what he actually does is sit around for a good portion of the day and watch TV) and the other just graduated from School of Visual Arts. They seemed alright, certainly live-with-able, and I figured that my first NYC apartment would be enriched by living with a couple of creative fun people.

And I'm sure that would have been true if that were going to be the case. But the first night I move my things in, I hear that one of the fellows is moving out (the DJ) and going back to California. Which was a little disappointing, but what are you gonna do? And then the next night (after the entirety of my stuff got into my room) I find out that both of them are leaving in the next couple of days. Which brings me right back for my request for roommates.

The point of all this being that I'm a little concerned about who's going to be living with me for the next few months/year. I guess a couple of people have been stopping by the apartment, including one girl named Brooke who I met the other night at a party. Well, she introduced herself again last night and expressed her interest in one of the rooms. She's a stripper (she told me), and intimated that a perk to her living there would be her bringing stripper friends over to hang out.

I'm not sure whether I'm psyched for something like that to happen or concerned. Either way, I'm definitely installing a pole in the middle of the apartment, just in case. I don't really keep up with what's socially acceptable anymore: If it comes up in conversation, do I tell my boss that I'm living with a stripper? On what date am I required to disclose something like that? The problem with being an engineer is that you don't have the experience dealing with these sort of social issues and problems.

Also - i had my first real meal (read: not a sandwich) in the apartment last night - Eggplant parmesan and diet coke whilst watching some basketball on tv. Good times.
